What is it?
The Auto Copyright Notice plugin for WordPress is a free add-on tool for the popular WordPress blogging platform which automatically  finds both the first and last post in your blog and updates the copyright notice in the footer of your website to reflect the complete range for your blog.

For example, if you started posting to a blog in 2007 and last published in 2009 the resulting copyright would read “Copyright 2007 – 2009″. If you added an old post to your 2003 archives, the notice would automatically update to reflect the 2003 date.

How to use the plugin
To use the plugin, you can download the plugin for free from the official WordPress repository at http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/auto-copyright-1/.

You can then add the plugin to your website by uploading it to your wp-content/plugins/ folder and activating the plugin.

In your theme add the following code to your footer.php file to activate the plugin.
